Our "Help Elmwood Thrive" Committee is a small, hard working group, responsible for our three main fund raising events each year...namely The Burns Supper, in January, the Strawberry Social in June, and a Turkey Dinner in the Fall.
Not only do we raise funds, but we reach out into the community encouraging people to attend, so that they may come to know us better. We recruit help and talent in these functions from our congregation, and from beyond the church.
We also do one luncheon per month, after church. (Three Loonie Lunch) from Sept. to Nov. and Jan. to May. Aside from raising funds, the object of these lunches is the opportunity for fellowship.
We take on other events at times, such as celebrations for anniversarys, birthdays, and some other catering throughout the year.
In years past, all profits from these efforts have gone directly to our general church fund, to assist in ongoing operational expenses of the church. In fact until 2005, we actually put ourselves as a budget line, as a source of revenue in the projected budget each year.
Our funds since the year 2005 and the current year are to be directed toward the purchase of a new commercial dishwasher for our church kitchen. Health Dept. regulations indicate that this addition to our equipment is necessary. We feel that this is a very important required upgrade. The purchase of this dishwasher will enable us to continue in our work, raising funds for the general budget or for other required areas.
We enjoy our work and feel the effort of our group is well supported. We are always open to suggestions for new ideas re: functions and available entertainment.
